Most of our planes come with an auto shut-off circuit that prevents the motor from draining the battery to the point where you lose control of the control surfaces (rudder, airlerons & elevator). When the circuit kicks in (it will do so when you start noticing a decrease in motor power), you can glide the plane in for a landing. If it happens to be too far away from the shore, you can give it a little bit of throttle and cut it off and then repeat until you get it close enough to retrieve it.
